William Eckhardt is famous as the super trader who made (and lost) a bet with Richard Dennis as to whether or not a group of uneducated rookies could be trained into competent stock traders using only a simple set of rules. This, of course, is the beginning of the Turtle traders legend, as the set of rules were Dennis' own 'turtle trading' rules. The Turtle experiment proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that great traders are made, not born. Eckhardt himself was of the opposite opinion, being highly educated and having learnt to trade the hard way. Since the experiment, William has often declare that trend following (the basis of the turtle method) no longer works, and yet has continued to rack up fantastic profits using that very same method. Whatever his opinions, William Eckhardt is a soundly respected trader with that very rare quality - the ability to generate consistent profits over a long time period.
